Meet Abby Harder

Welcome! I’m really glad you found your way here. Read on to learn more about my background and the way I work with clients.

My Story

I was born in Virginia, but the Tri-Cities has been my home for most of my life. I’ve always cherished this community—the beauty of its landscape and, most importantly, the people who make it so special. I feel deeply connected to this place, and it has shaped who I am in countless ways. As a wife and mother of three, my family is my greatest joy, and they keep me grounded and inspired every day.

Beyond my family, I’m an avid runner, a reader, and someone who finds peace and beauty in the quiet moments along the Columbia River and the trails of Badger Mountain.

Life has always been about connection for me—whether with loved ones, nature, or within the quiet moments of self-reflection. I’ve experienced both the joys and the deep challenges that life brings. Like many, I’ve been supported through difficult times and relied on my closest relationships to find healing and growth. It’s those experiences that have taught me the beauty and resilience that can emerge from life’s struggles.

I believe life’s journey is about embracing both the joys and the pains, finding meaning along the way, and nurturing the relationships that matter most.

Professional Background

I began my professional journey with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Eastern Washington University, where I specialized in middle-level mathematics and minored in special education. Over the course of seven years, I had the privilege of teaching a variety of subjects—everything from kindergarten music and first-grade P.E. to elementary library, technology, 3rd grade, and 5th grade.

Through these experiences, I discovered my true passion: supporting people as they build emotional resilience and foster meaningful connections. I came to understand that success isn’t always measured by academic scores, but by the strength of our social and emotional foundations. I prioritized teaching these vital life skills and worked closely with families to create collaborative environments that nurtured growth. I particularly cherished conference weeks, where I had the opportunity to celebrate each student’s unique strengths and witness the powerful impact of connection and support.

While I deeply valued guiding students through their academic journeys, I realized my true calling was to help people navigate life’s emotional and relational challenges. This realization led me to pursue a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Capella University.

I’m currently completing my internship at Renew Counseling, under the supervision of Jessica Wallace, MA, LMHC, NCC. Through this experience, I’ve gained hands-on practice and deepened my understanding of how to support individuals, couples, and families in navigating life’s complexities. I’m excited to combine my background in education, my passion for empowerment, and my therapeutic training to walk alongside clients in their journeys toward healing and growth.

My Therapeutic Approach

Everyone has a unique story, and everyone deserves to feel valued and understood. My goal is to create a space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported as you navigate life’s ups and downs. I approach each couple, family, and person with genuine care, curiosity, and compassion, holding onto a sense of hope for growth and healing, even during the difficult moments.

I believe in the power of exploring our strengths, perspectives, and experiences to foster meaningful change. Whether you’re navigating challenges in your relationships, seeking clarity as a couple, or striving to strengthen your family bonds, my role is to walk alongside you, offering support and encouragement. My approach is warm and collaborative, creating a space where trust, connection, and healing can flourish.

To ensure I provide the best possible care, I am an active member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and a proud member of Delta Kappa, the international marriage and family therapy honor society. These affiliations reflect my commitment to continually learning, growing, and holding myself to high ethical and professional standards. Staying connected to the latest advancements in the field allows me to bring care, integrity, and compassion to every session.

Drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques—like Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy—I tailor my methods to suit your individual, couple, or family needs, goals, and circumstances.
